Biological Background: Histone H4 Function and Localization
Histone H4 is a core component of the nucleosome, wrapping and compacting DNA into chromatin to regulate access for transcription, DNA repair, replication, and chromosomal stability. Lactylation of histone H4 at lysine 5 (corresponding to K6 in UniProt numbering) has been identified as a novel epigenetic mark linking cellular metabolism to gene regulation.
