- Importin-5 (IPO5, also known as karyopherin β3, RanBP5) is a member of the importin beta family of nuclear transport receptors that mediate the energy-dependent translocation of cargo proteins through the nuclear pore complex.
- It functions as a receptor for nuclear localization signals (NLS) in cargo substrates, facilitating the docking of the importin/substrate complex to nucleoporins and subsequent RanGTP-dependent release into the nucleoplasm.

- In vitro, IPO5 mediates the nuclear import of core histones H2A, H2B, H3, and H4.
