Biological Background: KANSL3 Function and Localization
- KANSL3 (also known as NSL3, Rcd1, KIAA1310) is a non-catalytic component of the NSL histone acetyltransferase complex that mediates histone H4 acetylation at Lys-5 and Lys-8 (H4K5ac and H4K8ac) at transcription start sites, thereby promoting transcription initiation. - Within the NSL complex, KANSL3 is required for KAT8 association with mitochondrial DNA and functions as a regulator of mitochondrial gene expression. Related references: PMID:27768893
- KANSL3 acts as a microtubule minus-end binding protein that stabilizes microtubules and promotes their assembly, playing an essential role in spindle assembly during mitosis. Related references: PMID:26243146
- It is required for transcription of intraciliary transport genes, necessary for cilium assembly in ciliated cells and for organization of the microtubule cytoskeleton in non-ciliated cells (By similarity).
