Biological Background: IP3R (ITPR1) Function and Localization
- ITPR1 encodes the inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate receptor type 1 (IP3R1), a ligand-gated calcium channel located primarily on the endoplasmic reticulum membrane.

- The channel undergoes conformational changes to switch between closed and open states, enabling calcium ion transport across the membrane.
- ITPR1 is involved in apoptosis through activation of the CAMK2 complex and regulation of mitochondrial calcium-dependent apoptosis via interaction with HSPA9 and VDAC1.
- The protein localizes to the ER membrane, secretory vesicle membranes, and the perinuclear cytoplasm, reflecting its dynamic role in calcium storage and release.
