  • Protein identity and isoforms: Indolethylamine N-methyltransferase (INMT), also known as thioether S-methyltransferase (TEMT) and aromatic alkylamine N-methyltransferase, catalyzes the N-methylation of tryptamine and related compounds, as well as the S-methylation of thioethers. Alternative splicing generates multiple isoforms.
  • Core nucleosome/chromatin function: Not applicable; this enzyme is a methyltransferase involved in small molecule metabolism rather than chromatin modification.
  • Gene family members: INMT belongs to the methyltransferase superfamily and utilizes S-adenosyl-L-methionine as a methyl donor.
