Biological Background: IL6ST Function and Localization

• Interleukin-6 receptor subunit beta (IL6ST, also known as gp130, CD130, CDw130, or oncostatin-M receptor subunit alpha) is a single-pass type I membrane protein that serves as a common signal-transducing receptor for the IL-6 cytokine family.
• IL6ST functions as the shared signal-transducing subunit for IL-6, IL-11, LIF, OSM, CNTF, CTF1, CLCF1, and other cytokines. Ligand binding induces receptor homodimerization (for IL-6/IL-11) or heterodimerization with LIFR or OSMR, initiating intracellular signaling cascades.
