Biological Background: IL-4 Function and Localization
- Interleukin-4 (IL-4), also known as B-cell stimulatory factor 1 (BSF-1), is a pleiotropic cytokine encoded by the Il4 gene.
- IL-4 is secreted primarily by mast cells, T-cells, eosinophils, and basophils and plays a key role in regulating antibody production, hematopoiesis, inflammation, and effector T-cell responses (PubMed:3083412).
