• Interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1RA), also known as IL-1ra or IL1 inhibitor, is encoded by the Il1rn gene in mouse.
• IL-1RA functions as an anti-inflammatory antagonist of the interleukin-1 family, competitively inhibiting the binding of proinflammatory cytokines IL-1beta and IL-1alpha to their receptor.
• It protects against immune dysregulation and uncontrolled systemic inflammation triggered by IL-1 in response to innate stimulatory agents such as pathogens.
• The protein is secreted and also localized in the cytoplasm.
