Biological Background: IGF1 Function and Localization

• IGF1 is a secreted growth factor structurally related to insulin, also known as insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I) and somatomedin-C.
• It promotes growth and anabolic effects; it regulates glucose transport and glycogen synthesis in osteoblasts at much lower concentrations than insulin.
