Biological Background: IFNGR2 Function and Localization
- IFNGR2, also known as interferon gamma receptor 2, AF-1, or IFN-gamma receptor beta-chain, is the signal-transducing subunit of the interferon gamma receptor.

- IFNGR2 is essential for signal transduction, whereas IFNGR1 is primarily responsible for ligand binding. Related references: PMID:7673114
- Subcellularly, IFNGR2 is localized to the cell membrane, cytoplasmic vesicle membrane, Golgi apparatus membrane, endoplasmic reticulum membrane, and cytoplasm.
- It is detected in T-cells at the protein level.
- The protein is glycosylated, contains disulfide bonds, and features a signal peptide and a transmembrane helix.
- Clinically, mutations in IFNGR2 are associated with immunodeficiency 28 (IMD28), a form of Mendelian susceptibility to mycobacterial disease.
