Biological Background: IFI35 Function and Localization

• IFI35 (Interferon-induced 35 kDa protein, also known as IFP35) is encoded by the IFI35 gene; alternative splicing produces multiple isoforms.
• In response to interferon-alpha, IFI35 forms a complex with NMI, preventing proteasome-mediated degradation and correlating with dephosphorylation. This complex inhibits virus-triggered type I interferon/IFN-beta production and negatively regulates NF-kappa-B signaling by blocking nuclear translocation of p65/RELA.
