Biological Background: ICT1/MRPL58 Function and Localization
- ICT1, also known as MRP-L58, DS-1, and immature colon carcinoma transcript 1 protein, is a mitochondrial large ribosomal subunit protein (UniProt Q14197).
- It functions as an essential peptidyl-tRNA hydrolase, acting as a codon-independent translation release factor that lacks stop codon specificity, directing translation termination and ribosome recycling in the mitochondrion.
