Biological Background: ICAM-1/CD54 Function and Localization

  • ICAM-1 (Intercellular adhesion molecule 1), also known as CD54 or Major group rhinovirus receptor, functions as a cell adhesion molecule by binding to integrins LFA-1 and Mac-1, mediating leukocyte adhesion to endothelial cells and facilitating T-cell activation and trans-endothelial migration.
