- IL-1β is a potent pro-inflammatory cytokine that induces multiple effects including prostaglandin synthesis, neutrophil influx, T- and B-cell activation, and fibroblast proliferation; it was initially identified as the major endogenous pyrogen (PubMed:3920526).

For detection of intracellular IL-1β, cells should be fixed, permeabilized, and may require pretreatment with a protein transport inhibitor (e.g., brefeldin A) to block secretion and retain the cytokine in the Golgi/cytoplasm.
- The immunogen corresponds to the mature form of human IL-1β (amino acids 117-269), suggesting that the antibody recognizes the processed active cytokine. Validate staining in activated human monocytes/macrophages or IL-1β-expressing cell lines.
