Biological Background: IgD Function and Localization

• Immunoglobulin heavy constant delta (IgD) is the constant region of immunoglobulin delta heavy chains, existing as membrane-bound (mIgD) or secreted (sIgD) glycoproteins. Each IgD molecule possesses two antigen-binding sites formed by the variable domains of one heavy and one light chain.
• IgD serves as the major antigen receptor isotype on the surface of most peripheral B cells, coexpressed with IgM.
