  • CD79a, also known as Ig-alpha or MB-1, is the alpha chain of the B-cell antigen receptor complex and contains an immunoglobulin domain.
  • In cooperation with CD79B, it is essential for initiating signal transduction following antigen binding to the B-cell receptor (BCR), leading to BCR internalization, trafficking to late endosomes, and antigen presentation.
  • CD79a is required for BCR surface expression and efficient differentiation of pro- and pre-B-cells.
  • It stimulates SYK autophosphorylation and activation, and recruits BLNK to the receptor complex, facilitating BLNK phosphorylation by SYK.
  • CD79a interacts with and enhances the activity of some Src-family tyrosine kinases, while also repressing BCR signaling during the development of immature B-cells.
  • Subcellular localization is at the cell membrane, consistent with its role as a transmembrane receptor component.
