Biological Background: CD355/CRTAM Function and Localization
- CD355/CRTAM (Cytotoxic and regulatory T-cell molecule) is a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily that undergoes alternative splicing, yielding isoforms of approximately 44 kDa and 22 kDa.
- It mediates heterophilic cell-cell adhesion that regulates the activation, differentiation, and tissue retention of various T-cell subsets.
- Interaction with CADM1 promotes natural killer (NK) cell cytotoxicity and interferon-gamma secretion by CD8+ T-cells in vitro, and supports NK cell-mediated tumor rejection in vivo. Related references: PMID:15811952
- CD355/CRTAM regulates CD8+ T-cell proliferation in response to T-cell receptor (TCR) activation but appears dispensable for CD8+ T-cell-mediated cytotoxicity.
- Binding to SCRIB promotes late-phase polarization of CD4+ T-cells, which in turn modulates TCR-mediated proliferation and production of IL-17 and IL-22.
