Biological Background: HSP70 Function and Localization
- HSP70, encoded by the HSPA1A (P0DMV8) and HSPA1B (P0DMV9) genes, is a highly conserved molecular chaperone belonging to the heat shock protein 70 family. It is also known as HSP72, HSP70-1, HSP70.1, and stress-inducible HSP70.
- Functions as an ATP-dependent chaperone that cycles between low substrate affinity (ATP-bound) and high affinity (ADP-bound) states, regulated by co-chaperones such as HSP40s, nucleotide exchange factors (e.g., BAG family), and TPR domain proteins (e.g., HOPX, STUB1).
