- Also known as heat shock 110 kDa protein, antigen NY-CO-25, and heat shock protein family H member 1.
- Functions as a nucleotide-exchange factor (NEF) for HSPA1A and HSPA1B, promoting ADP release and client/substrate protein release. Related references: PMID:24318877
- Prevents aggregation of denatured proteins under severe stress with low ATP levels (By similarity).
- Inhibits HSPA8/HSC70 ATPase and chaperone activities (By similarity).
- Located in the cytoplasm.
- Highly expressed in testis; lower levels in most brain regions except cerebellum; overexpressed in cancer cells.
- Subject to acetylation and phosphorylation; alternative splicing generates isoforms.
- Classified as an ATP-binding, nucleotide-binding phosphoprotein involved in stress response; has a characterized 3D structure and is identified in proteomics studies.
