Biological Background: HSF1 Function and Localization
- HSF1 is the heat shock factor protein 1 (HSTF1), a stress-inducible transcription factor that activates heat shock protein (HSP) gene expression to protect cells from stress-induced damage.

- In unstressed cells, HSF1 is maintained in a monomeric, DNA-binding-inactive state through association with an HSP90-containing multichaperone complex.
