• GSTO1, also known as glutathione S-transferase omega 1-1, functions as a glutathione-dependent dehydroascorbate reductase and monomethylarsonic acid (MMA(V)) reductase.
• Participates in the biotransformation of inorganic arsenic, reducing monomethylarsonic acid and dimethylarsonic acid.
• Exhibits thiol transferase, S-(phenacyl)glutathione reductase, and glutathione S-transferase activities.
• Localizes primarily in the cytoplasm and cytosol.
• Ubiquitously expressed, with highest levels in liver, pancreas, skeletal muscle, spleen, thymus, colon, blood leukocyte, and heart; lowest in brain, placenta, and lung.
• Subject to post-translational modifications including acetylation and phosphorylation; alternative splicing generates multiple isoforms.
