- GPNMB (Transmembrane glycoprotein NMB), also known as hematopoietic growth factor inducible neurokinin-1 type (HGFIN), is a type I transmembrane protein encoded by the GPNMB gene in humans.
- It is predicted to function as a melanogenic enzyme, potentially involved in melanin biosynthesis, although its catalytic activity remains to be fully defined.
- The protein localizes primarily to the cell membrane and intracellular membranes of melanosomes and early endosomes.
- Post-translational modifications include N-linked glycosylation and phosphorylation, as indicated by proteomic identification.
