Biological Background: GATA1 Function and Localization
- GATA1 (erythroid transcription factor, also known as GF-1, NF-E1, Eryf1) is a key regulator of erythroid development, belonging to the GATA family of zinc-finger transcription factors.
- It acts as a transcriptional activator or repressor, binding to consensus DNA sequences 5'-[AT]GATA[AG]-3' within regulatory regions of globin genes and other erythroid-specific genes.
