Biological Background: GALNT2 Function and Localization
- GALNT2 encodes polypeptide N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferase 2 (GalNAc-T2), a Golgi-resident enzyme that initiates O-linked glycosylation by transferring N-acetyl-D-galactosamine (GalNAc) to serine or threonine residues of target proteins.
- It exhibits broad substrate specificity, glycosylating peptides (EA2), mucins (Muc5AC, Muc1a, Muc1b), and proteins such as apolipoprotein C-III (APOC-III), angiopoietin-like 3 (ANGPTL3), and phospholipid transfer protein (PLTP).
