- FNDC4 (Fibronectin type III domain-containing protein 4), also known as fibronectin type III repeat-containing protein 1 (FRCP1), is a secreted and transmembrane glycoprotein.
- It acts as an anti-inflammatory factor, particularly in the colon where it down-regulates inflammation in macrophages.
- FNDC4 may suppress osteoclastogenesis and inhibit mature osteoclast resorptive function.
- In white adipose tissue, FNDC4 decreases local inflammation by interacting with GPR116, and it sensitizes white adipocytes to insulin, promoting glucose uptake, thereby improving systemic glucose tolerance.
- Subcellularly, FNDC4 localizes to the membrane and is also secreted, consistent with its roles in extracellular signaling.
