- Filamin A (FLNA), also known as actin-binding protein 280 (ABP-280) or alpha-filamin, is a large dimeric actin-crosslinking protein encoded by the FLNA gene.
- It promotes orthogonal branching of actin filaments and links actin filaments to membrane glycoproteins, providing mechanical stability to the cortical cytoskeleton.
- Serves as a scaffold for a wide range of cytoplasmic signaling proteins, anchoring various transmembrane proteins to the actin cytoskeleton and regulating intracellular trafficking (e.g., of furin).
- Plays a critical role in cell-cell contacts and adherens junctions during the development of the vasculature, heart, and brain.

- Subcellularly localized to the cytoplasm, cell cortex, cytoskeleton, growth cones, and podosomes; tissue expression is ubiquitous.
