Biological Background: FFAR3 Function and Localization

• FFAR3, also known as G protein-coupled receptor 41 (GPR41), is a free fatty acid receptor 3 that belongs to the G protein-coupled receptor family. It is activated by short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) such as propionate, butyrate, and pentanoate, which are major products of dietary fiber digestion by gut microbiota.
