Biological Background: FDX1 Function and Localization
- The protein is also known as adrenodoxin, adrenal ferredoxin, ferredoxin-1, and hepatoredoxin; encoded by the FDX1 gene.
- Essential for the synthesis of various steroid hormones, participating in the reduction of mitochondrial cytochrome P450 for steroidogenesis. Related references: PMID:20547883, PMID:21636783
- Transfers electrons from adrenodoxin reductase to CYP11A1, a cytochrome P450 that catalyzes cholesterol side-chain cleavage.
- Does not form a ternary complex with adrenodoxin reductase and CYP11A1 but shuttles between the two enzymes to transfer electrons (By similarity).
- Localizes to the mitochondrial matrix, consistent with its role in mitochondrial electron transport.
- Highly expressed in the adrenal gland, with additional detection in kidney and testis.
- Contains a 2Fe-2S cluster, key to its electron transfer function, and is subject to acetylation and phosphorylation.

- The immunogen is a synthetic peptide corresponding to amino acids 61–160 of human FDX1. For Western blot (WB), consider that the predicted molecular weight is approximately 19 kDa, and validate the band size in your sample lysate.
- As this antibody is validated for ELISA, it may be suitable for peptide recognition; optimize coating and detection conditions for your specific assay format.
- The antibody cross-reacts with mouse, so it can be used for mouse tissue or cell lysate analysis; verify specificity in your mouse model system.
