Biological Background: FAT10/UBD Function and Localization
- FAT10/UBD (ubiquitin D) is a ubiquitin-like protein modifier consisting of two tandem ubiquitin-like domains, leading to the alternative name “diubiquitin.”
- Conjugated to target proteins via UBA6-mediated adenylation of its C-terminal glycine, it tags them for 26S proteasomal degradation in a NUB1-dependent manner.
