Biological Background: FAR1 Function and Localization
- FAR1 (Fatty acyl-CoA reductase 1), also known as male sterility domain-containing protein 2 (MLSTD2), is a member of the fatty acyl-CoA reductase family.
- Catalyzes the reduction of saturated and unsaturated C16 or C18 fatty acyl-CoA to fatty alcohols. Related references: PMID:15220348 PMID:24108123 PMID:35238077
- Plays an essential role in the production of ether lipids/plasmalogens, which require fatty alcohols for their synthesis. Related references: PMID:20071337 PMID:24108123 PMID:33239752

- Localizes to the peroxisome membrane and contains transmembrane helices.

Experimental Guidance and Technical Tips
- The immunogen corresponds to amino acids 1–100 of human FAR1, which may allow detection of full-length protein. As a polyclonal antibody, it recognizes multiple epitopes, potentially reducing the impact of minor sequence variations.
- For Western blotting, a band near 59 kDa is expected. Use appropriate human positive control lysates or cell lines known to express FAR1.
- In ELISA, the antibody can serve as either capture or detection antibody; perform titration and validation experiments to determine optimal working dilutions.
- Cross-reactivity is reported only for human; if used on samples from other species, validate via sequence homology and experimental testing.
