Biological Background: ERGIC2 Function and Localization

• ERGIC2 (Endoplasmic Reticulum-Golgi Intermediate Compartment protein 2), also known as PTX1, CDA14, Erv41, is encoded by the ERGIC2 gene (also ERV41) in humans.
• It is proposed to function in the transport of cargo between the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and the Golgi apparatus.
• The protein localizes primarily to the ER-Golgi intermediate compartment (ERGIC), and additionally to the cis-Golgi network, ER membrane, cytoplasm, and nucleus.
• ERGIC2 is ubiquitously expressed across human tissues.
• It is a multi-pass membrane protein with a calculated molecular weight of approximately 42.5 kDa.
• As an ERGIC-resident protein, it may participate in the selective sorting and recycling of proteins within the early secretory pathway.

• The immunogen corresponds to a region from amino acid 55 to 310 of human ERGIC2, which may target multiple isoforms. For optimal results in WB, test a range of antibody dilutions and include appropriate positive and negative controls.
• Due to cross-reactivity with mouse, this antibody can be used to study ERGIC2 in mouse samples; however, validation in the relevant sample system is advised.
