  • It is responsible for the 5'-incision during DNA repair and plays a critical role in the repair of interstrand cross-links (ICL) in conjunction with SLX4.
  • ERCC1 participates in processing anaphase bridge-generating DNA structures, which arise from incompletely processed DNA lesions during S or G2 phase and can lead to cytokinesis failure if unresolved.
  • The protein is also required for homology-directed repair (HDR) of DNA double-strand breaks, working with SLX4.
  • Notably, ERCC1 is not functional in the nucleotide excision repair (NER) pathway, indicating a specialized role in other repair mechanisms.
