Biological Background: EML4 Function and Localization

  • EML4 is a microtubule-associated protein belonging to the echinoderm microtubule-associated protein-like family, also known as Restrictedly overexpressed proliferation-associated protein (Ropp 120).
  • It is essential for the formation and stability of microtubules (MTs). Related references: PMID:16890222, PMID:31409757
  • Required for the organization of the mitotic spindle, proper kinetochore-MT attachment, and recruitment of NUDC for mitotic progression. Related references: PMID:25789526
  • Subcellularly localized to the cytoplasm, cytoskeleton, mitotic spindle, microtubule organizing center, and midbody.
  • Contains coiled-coil and WD repeat domains and undergoes post-translational modifications including acetylation and phosphorylation.
