Biological Background: eIF4A3 Function and Localization

  • Encoded by the EIF4A3 gene, the protein is also known as ATP-dependent RNA helicase DDX48, nuclear matrix protein 265 (NMP265), and eukaryotic initiation factor 4A-III.

  • It acts as an ATP-dependent RNA helicase, facilitating ATP-dependent unwinding of RNA secondary structures during pre-mRNA splicing and other processes. Related references: PMID:16170325
