Biological Background: eIF3e Function and Localization

  • eIF3e, also known as INT6, EIF3S6, or eIF3-p48, is a ~52 kDa subunit of the eukaryotic translation initiation factor 3 (eIF-3) complex, which is required for several steps in the initiation of protein synthesis. Related references: PMID:17581632, PMID:25849773, PMID:27462815
  • The eIF-3 complex associates with the 40S ribosome to form the 43S pre-initiation complex, stimulates mRNA recruitment and scanning for the AUG start codon, and is required for disassembly and recycling of post-termination complexes, preventing premature subunit joining.
