Biological Background: EHMT2 Function and Localization
- EHMT2 is a histone methyltransferase that specifically mono- and dimethylates histone H3 at Lys-9 (H3K9me1 and H3K9me2) in euchromatin, establishing a repressive epigenetic mark that recruits HP1 proteins to chromatin. Related references: PMID:11316813, PMID:20084102
- It mediates monomethylation of histone H3 at Lys-56 (H3K56me1) during G1 phase, facilitating the interaction between histone H3 and PCNA to regulate DNA replication. Related references: PMID:22387026
