- EHF (ETS homologous factor), also known as ESE-3, is an ETS domain-containing transcription factor encoded by the EHF gene in humans.
- Functions as both a transcriptional activator and repressor, binding to the consensus core sequence GGAA. It modulates epithelial cell differentiation and proliferation, and regulates mitogen-activated protein kinase signaling cascades.
- Involved in the regulation of TNFRSF10B/DR5 expression by binding to Ets-binding sequences on its promoter, linking EHF to apoptosis and cancer-related pathways.
- May act as a tumor suppressor gene or anti-oncogene, contributing to development and carcinogenesis.
- Localizes exclusively in the nucleus, consistent with its role as a transcription factor.
