- Member of the E2F family of transcription factors, which play a crucial role in cell cycle regulation and DNA replication.
- Functions as a transcriptional activator by binding to the E2 recognition site (5'-TTTC[CG]CGC-3') in target promoters, cooperatively with DP proteins.
- The DRTF1/E2F complex, involving E2F2, controls the progression from G1 to S phase of the cell cycle.
- Specifically interacts with the retinoblastoma protein (RB1) in a cell-cycle-dependent manner.
- Predominantly localized in the nucleus.
- Post-translational modifications include phosphorylation (Phosphoprotein keyword).
- Highest expression is observed in placenta, with lower levels in lung; also detected in many immortalized tumor cell lines.
- The calculated molecular weight is approximately 48 kDa.
