- Dysbindin (dystrobrevin-binding protein 1), also known as BLOC-1 subunit 8 or Hermansky-Pudlak syndrome 7 protein (HPS7), is encoded by the DTNBP1 gene in humans.
- It is a core component of the biogenesis of lysosome-related organelles complex 1 (BLOC-1), which is essential for the normal biogenesis of LROs such as platelet dense granules and melanosomes.
- Dysbindin functions in membrane protein cargo sorting into vesicles at the cell body for delivery to neurites and nerve terminals, working together with the AP-3 complex.
