• DLAT encodes dihydrolipoyllysine-residue acetyltransferase (E2) of the mitochondrial pyruvate dehydrogenase (PDH) complex, also known as PDC-E2 or M2 antigen complex 70 kDa subunit.
• The PDH complex links cytoplasmic glycolysis to the mitochondrial TCA cycle by converting pyruvate to acetyl-CoA and CO₂.
• Within the complex, the E2 enzyme accepts acetyl groups from acetyl-lipoyl moieties generated by pyruvate dehydrogenase (E1) and transfers them to coenzyme A, forming acetyl-CoA.
