Biological Background: DJ-1/PARK7 Function and Localization

  • DJ-1/PARK7 is a multifunctional protein primarily known as Parkinson disease protein 7, also identified as Maillard deglycase, oncogene DJ1, and protein/nucleic acid deglycase DJ-1. It acts as a redox-sensitive chaperone and protease, playing a critical role in protecting cells against oxidative stress and cell death.
