Biological Background: DHRS11 Function and Localization

  • DHRS11 is a short-chain dehydrogenase/reductase (SDR) family member encoded by the DHRS11 gene (also known as SDR24C1), with multiple isoforms generated through alternative splicing.
  • It catalyzes the conversion of 17-keto groups of estrone, 4- and 5-androstenes, and 5-alpha-androstanes to 17-beta-hydroxyl metabolites, and reduces 3-keto groups of 3-, 3,17-, and 3,20-diketosteroids to 3beta-hydroxyl metabolites. Related references: PMID:26920053
  • The enzyme converts the adrenal androgen precursors 11-keto-4-androstene-3,17-dione (11KA4) and 11-keto-5alpha-androstane-3,17-dione (11K-Adione) into the potent androgens 11-ketotestosterone (11KT) and 11-ketodihydrotestosterone (11KDHT), respectively. Related references: PMID:31926269

  • This antibody is validated for ELISA and may be suitable for quantifying DHRS11 in biological fluids or cell culture supernatants, given its secreted nature.
