  • CYP46A1 is a cytochrome P450 monooxygenase that functions as a cholesterol 24-hydroxylase, playing a major role in brain cholesterol homeostasis by catalyzing the hydroxylation at C-24 of the cholesterol side chain, thereby promoting cholesterol elimination from neurons.
