CUL5 encodes the scaffold protein cullin-5 (VACM-1) that forms the core of multiple cullin-5-RING E3 ubiquitin ligase complexes (CRL5), positioning substrates and ubiquitin-conjugating enzymes for ubiquitination and proteasomal degradation.
