- Carboxypeptidase A6 (CPA6, also known as CPAH, ETL5, FEB11) is a secreted, zinc-dependent metallocarboxypeptidase that belongs to the peptidase M14 family.
- It is implicated in the proteolytic processing of neuropeptides; specifically, it may inactivate enkephalins and neurotensin in certain brain regions and can convert angiotensin I to the active angiotensin II. Related references: PMID:18178555
- CPA6 preferentially cleaves C-terminal large hydrophobic amino acids, exhibiting minimal activity toward small residues or histidine. Related references: PMID:20855895
- The gene undergoes alternative splicing and chromosomal rearrangements have been observed; mutations in CPA6 are associated with familial febrile seizures and epilepsy, as indicated by its alias FEB11.
