- The coatomer complex is required for budding from Golgi membranes and mediates both anterograde biosynthetic transport from the ER to the trans-Golgi network and retrograde Golgi-to-ER transport of dilysine-tagged proteins.
- COPB2 is essential for the structural integrity of the Golgi apparatus and influences the processing, activity, and endocytic recycling of LDL receptors.
- The coatomer complex is recruited to Golgi membranes via GTP-dependent interaction with ADP-ribosylation factors (ARFs), and COPB2 can function as a selective binding protein (RACK) for protein kinase C epsilon type.
- Subcellularly, COPB2 localizes to the cytoplasm, cytosol, Golgi apparatus membrane, and COPI-coated vesicle membranes.
- The protein has a molecular weight of approximately 102 kDa and contains WD repeat domains, and it undergoes post-translational modifications including acetylation and phosphorylation.
