• Claudin-18 isoform A2 (CLDN18.2) is a member of the claudin family of tight junction proteins.
• It plays a critical role in forming the gastric paracellular barrier by mediating tight junction assembly, thereby contributing to the response to gastric acidification.
• Subcellularly, CLDN18.2 localizes to tight junctions at the lateral cell membrane.
• Expression is highly tissue-specific, restricted to the stomach mucosa, predominantly in epithelial cells of the pit region and the base of gastric glands, including both exocrine and endocrine cells.
