- CHP1 (calcineurin B homologous protein 1) is a 22-kDa EF-hand calcium-binding protein also known as p22, SLC9A1BP; it undergoes N-myristoylation and phosphorylation.
- Mediates microtubule-membrane organelle linkage, required for transcytotic vesicle targeting and fusion with the plasma membrane.
- Integral cofactor for Na+/H+ exchanger SLC9A1/NHE1, enhancing its pH sensitivity, stabilizing its plasma membrane localization, and inhibiting serum/GTPase-stimulated exchange.
- Represses ribosomal RNA transcription by inhibiting UBF1 nucleolar translocation and binding to ribosomal gene promoters.
- Negative regulator of calcineurin/NFAT signaling, suppressing NFAT nuclear import and transcriptional activity.
- Localizes to nucleus, cytoplasm, cytoskeleton, ER, Golgi, and plasma membrane; ubiquitously expressed with detection in multiple fetal tissues.
