Biological Background: C/EBPB Function and Localization

  • C/EBPB is a member of the C/EBP family of transcription factors, also known as TCF5, IL6DBP, NF-IL6, or C/EBP-beta. Alternative translation initiation produces multiple isoforms, including the full-length liver activator protein (LAP) and the truncated liver-enriched inhibitory protein (LIP), which can heterodimerize and act as a dominant-negative regulator (PubMed:11741938).
