- It strongly inhibits cyclin E-CDK2, cyclin D2-CDK4, and cyclin A-CDK2, and to a lesser extent the mitotic cyclin B-CDC2, thereby enforcing cell cycle arrest at the G1/S transition.
- The protein is thought to contribute to the maintenance of the non-proliferative state throughout life, playing a critical role in terminal differentiation and senescence.
